Sky Sports confirms major shake-up including two dedicated football channels

Sky Sports has confirmed the biggest shake-up in its 26-year history as part of a new line-up of themed channels which will allow customers to pick and choose the sports they want to subscribe to.

The number of channels will extend to ten including a dedicated Premier League channel and a second dedicated football channel.

Sky promise the full package - which launches on Tuesday (July 18) - will be frozen at the same price as now, £27.50 per month, for at least a year. But for the first time it is allowing viewers to subscribe to only the themed sports channels they want.

One channel will be £18 per month, two for £22 and three for £26. Existing sports customers will automatically receive the new channels from launch day.

There will also be major enhancements to the Sky Sports app which will include more interactive features on live football and other sports depending on which subscription you've decided upon.

All Sky Sports customers will continue to get Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports News regardless of how many of the other channels they take. Mix will also be available to general Sky subscribers who take no sports channels, continuing as a 'taster' channel for what Sky Sports offers.
The new package will also be via NOW TV, Virgin Media and TalkTalk.

People watching Sky Sports through BT TV will now get just Sky Sports Main Event, although an "overspill" Sky Sports Extra channel will also be available to BT TV customers. It's thought it will only be used when Premier League live games are not on Main Event.

It's not clear, but it's thought you'd still have to subscribe to Sky's basic entertainment bundle (£22 a month) before being able to add any Sky Sports channels (as is the case now). It should also be noted that to get the channels in HD you'd still have to pay an extra charge (as is also the case now). Sky Q customers will also have the chance to see some sports in Ultra HD.

The full line-up is:
