Jose Mourinho signs for BT Sport

The Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has signed a three-year deal to work with BT Sport.

Under the agreement, Mourinho will do some work as a pundit on BT's coverage, will produce special programmes for the channel and becomes a BT Sport ambassador and will be used in the broadcaster's marketing campaign.

It's thought his work on live games for BT might be limited by his Chelsea role with the Daily Telegraph suggesting he will only appear on screen for games in competitions which his club are not - or no longer - involved in. BT own the rights to some live Premier League and FA Cup games this season and will become the exclusive home of the Champions and Europa Leagues from the 2015-16 season. They also screen a number of European leagues.

On linking up with BT Sport, Mourinho said: "I'm looking forward to working with BT Sport. In their first year they have shown they are not afraid to challenge, are open to new ideas and want to do things differently. This is the kind of team and ambition I want to work with."

The man behind BT's football coverage, senior channel executive producer Grant Best, hailed Mourinho as "one of the greatest managers of all time".

He said: "Jose is well known for his sense of humour, strong views and unique character and we will showcase this along with his expert insight in our coverage of the Barclays Premier League, Europeans leagues and competitions."

Mourinho's capture by BT is the latest chapter in a fierce war between the company and rivals Sky for TV and broadband customers.

Sky are offering a two-year free broadband deal for Sky Sports customers in a campaign fronted by David Beckham while BT Sport will remain free next season for viewers who also sign up to BT's broadband offer.
