Premier League highlights will continue to be screened on Match of the Day after it was confirmed the BBC had retained the rights until the end of the 2018-19 season.
The corporation has struck a £204 million deal with the Premier League, up about 14 per cent on what it is currently paying.
There had been speculation that ITV would snatch the rights with a mega-bid after losing live FA Cup and Champions League rights, but some reports suggest they didn't make a serious bid in the end.
The new three-year BBC deal covers:
> Match of the Day's traditional Saturday night show
> Sunday morning repeat
> Sunday night Match of the Day 2
> Special Match of the Day editions at other times when the fixture list justifies it
> A new midweek Premier League magazine show 10pm every Wednesday night on BBC 2.
> Football Focus
> All editions of Match of the Day being available on the BBC I-Player.
The new deal starts at the end of the current arrangement between the Premier League and the BBC which was due to end next year.
MOTD host Gary Lineker was delighted at the news:
Thrilled to report that the BBC retains the rights to show @premierleague highlights. Long live Match Of The Day.

The BBC's deal is for highlights only. Live match rights are currently held by Sky Sports and BT Sport, but with that deal due to run out next year the Premier League has invited broadcasters to bid for the live rights from then until 2019.
