Channel 5 confirm Football League highlights presenters

Kelly Cates and George Riley have been confirmed as the hosts of Channel 5's new Saturday night prime-time Football League highlights show.

Cates, who has previously worked for Sky, Setanta and ESPN and is the daughter of former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish, has been teamed up with Riley, who has worked for various broadcasters including 5Live and BBC Sport.

The pair will host the 90-minute programme Football League Tonight programme in its regular 9pm Saturday night slot. Channel 5 say the new show will include extended highlights of the weekend's best matches as well as every single goal from all three divisions.

Players, managers and fans will join Cates and Riley in the studio for the show which unlike its BBC predecessor will also be screened on international weekends when only Leagues 1 & 2 are in action.

Channel 5 are taking over from the BBC to screen highlights after agreeing a three-year deal with the Football League. As part of the agreement, they will also be able to screen League Cup highlights.

As well as the live 9pm Saturday screening, the programme will also be available via Channel 5's catch-up service Demand 5.

Sky Sports will continue to screen live games with goals also being available on Saturday nights on Sky Sports News HQ.
