ITV has taken the unusual step of pushing back its flagship News at Ten programme to make way for Champions League highlights.

The broadcaster lost live rights along with Sky Sports to BT, but seem determined to make the most of its deal for highlights.

Every Wednesday on Champions League weeks, ITV will screen a one-hour highlights show from 10pm with that night's games featuring domestic sides along with Tuesday's matches.

It means Wednesday night match highlights will air just minutes after the final whistle.

ITV's lead football anchor Mark Pougatch will front the shows.

ITV News at Ten will start at 11pm with another programme, Champions League: Extra Time, featuring highlights of the non-domestic teams, from 11.45pm to 12.20am.

ITV will also screen highlights of the Europa League on Thursday nights after News at Ten from 10.40pm.
