Could Jeff Stelling be the next host of Super Sunday & Monday Night Football?

Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling has emerged as the fans' favourite to take over as host of Sky's Super Sunday and Monday Night Football games.

With Ed Chamberlin set to leave Sky to take the helm of ITV's racing coverage, Stelling was the clear winner of a Footie on TV poll.
Best known for Sky's Saturday afternoon goals show, Stelling has previously presented live football for the broadcaster. He was the regular anchor for Sky's Champions League coverage before it lost rights to BT Sport. He has also hosted the occasional Premier League match.

But it's not clear whether the logistics of Stelling presenting Soccer Saturday alongside Super Sunday and Monday night games would be possible.

One sports TV industry observer said: "He's Sky's biggest name and would be the obvious choice to take on the flagship Sunday and Monday slots.

"Jeff wouldn't want to lose his Soccer Saturday gig and Sky wouldn't want to lose him from that either. He could feasibly combine Soccer Saturday, Super Sunday and Monday Night Football, but it would be a huge undertaking.

"Super Sunday is always presented on location so it would mean a Saturday night dash to one ground then back to Sky's base for the Monday Night Football.

"Presenters don't just turn up just before they go on air, there are hours of preparation put in ahead of a live match or show like Soccer Saturday and combining three big shows three days running would be very intense. Jeff's hugely professional, but such a full-on schedule may be unrealistic."

David Jones, who currently hosts Sky's Saturday Premier League offering, could be in the running. Simon Thomas, who is Sky's lead Football League presenter, and Kate Abdo - who is seen as a rising star at Sky Sports having been promoted to Spanish La Liga games - might also be considered.

Jake Humphrey, on rival channel BT Sport, is unlikely to be in the running given he is locked into a four-year deal with BT which he signed last year.

Sky also have to decide who will front their new package of ten Friday night Premier League games a season.
