Sky Sports face a bruising battle with arch-rivals BT Sport to keep exclusive live rights of the English Football League games.
The EFL Board has decided against taking up the option it has to extend Sky's current deal to screen 127 live games a season from the competition's three divisions.
Sky's current deal - which includes all the play-off matches - has two seasons to run, but with the EFL deciding not to exercise its option to extend the deal for the 2019-20 season it will now be put to the market.
That means Sky face another battle with BT who it seems certain will relish the chance to try and grab Football League matches from Sky.
The EFL will put out a tender document in the coming days inviting broadcasters to bid for the live rights for the 19-20 season onwards.
Until that's released, it's not clear how the rights will be broken down. They could be split into packages in the same way that the Premier League awards its TV rights. There's also speculation the EFL could allow more games to be screened live, particularly in the midweek rounds of fixtures.
That would open the door to both Sky and BT sharing the rights in the same way both broadcasters currently show Premier League games.
The rights also include the EFL Cup and League Trophy, although again its not clear yet whether these will be split into a separate package.
