Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher will not be seen on screen for the rest of the season.
The broadcaster has confirmed the former Liverpool man will remain suspended for the remainder of the football season.
In a statement, Sky said the decision follows "an internal review" but suggested he could return next season with talks planned for the summer.
"Jamie has taken full responsibility for what happened and we ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again.
"Before the start of next season we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role," the statement from Sky said.
The move follows Carragher spitting towards a car in which a man and his 14-year-daughter had been travelling in. The man had taunted him about Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United which Carragher was returning home from after covering the game for Sky.

He also called on people not to attack the family in the incident:I have already said I take responsibility for what happened. It was a moment of madness and I’m going to speak to the relevant people to ensure something like this never happens again. Again apologies all round. https://t.co/DSg6cQLQIW— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) March 14, 2018
I’ve made a big mistake & accept full responsibility. I am the only person to blame for this sorry situation, so please leave the family alone. https://t.co/HBuCBRyvJF— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) March 14, 2018
