FA Cup to ONLY be shown on FREE-TO-AIR TV as BT Sport lose rights to ITV

The FA Cup will only be shown on FREE-TO-AIR TV from 2021 after BT Sport lost its rights to show games to ITV.

The Times' sports news correspondent Matt Hughes is reporting HERE that ITV are closing in on a four-year deal which would see the FA Cup exclusively on freeview TV for the first time in more than 30 years.

While a huge boost to ITV, it's also a blow for BT Sport who have lost all Scottish Premiership games to Sky and from next season have no weekend first-pick Premier League games which have been secured by Sky.

It's likely the new ITV-BBC deal will be confirmed in the next few days and formally announced ahead of Saturday's FA Cup Final.

The BBC side of the deal was confirmed earlier this year. It's thought the BBC will retain first picks from each round, but ITV will have more games. Both BBC and ITV will show the final.

The current deal which sees BBC and BT share coverage will continue for the next two seasons before the new arrangements begin.

NEW DEAL (four seasons from 2021-22)
BBC 18 games a season
ITV up to 30 games a season
