Eleven Sports clinches rights to three more top leagues

Eleven Sports has clinched exclusive live coverage of three more top divisions ahead of its launch of two new UK channels.

It's taken the Eredivisie Dutch league and Chinese Super League, which Sky Sports had held the rights to, and the Swedish Allsvenskan which had no home on UK TV.

The new deals - which run for three years for each league - come on top of the rights for the Spain's LaLiga, captured from Sky, and Italy's Serie A which was snatched from BT.

The Chinese Super League deal will kick in from next year with Sky continuing to screen the division for now. The Dutch Eredivisie will be shown from the new season on Eleven.

While Sky were disappointed to lose LaLiga rights they are unlikely to be too concerned at the loss of the Eredivisie and Chinese leagues which attracted very small ratings and were considered as filler content for their dedicated football channel.

However, the move shows Eleven's ambitions to become a bigger player in the UK TV sports market. With the Premier League, EFL, FA Cup and Champions and Europa League rights all sewn up between Sky and BT for a number of years it will some time before they can make a move for those matches, though.

Eleven still hasn't confirmed how much its new channels will cost, but it is now inviting people to register via its website for further information when it becomes available.

It has confirmed the two new channels will launch in August online, but it is also trying to secure a deal for Sky, BT and Virgin to carry the channels on their platforms.
